Daniel Jeffares is a senior lecturer in the Department of Biology at the University of York (UK) and a member of York Biomedical Research Institute (YBRI).

His research used methods from molecular evolution, population genomics, genomics and quantitative genetics to understand populations and the evolution of Leishmania parasites. He works with partners in East Africa, Europe and Brazil.

Current projects include analysis of Leishmania donovani/infantum populations, showing that this species complex left Africa during the Roman Empire (with Elisa Cupolillo and others), and study of Leishmania guyanensis in the Amazon (with Jorge Guerra, Hiro Goto and others).
